Filmed on location at the most legendary rock venues in the five boroughs of NYC,
Borough Underground delivers a sonic sampling and behind-the-scenes look at some of the Big Apple's most anticipated emerging artists.
Conception
Borough Underground is a collective effort involving a close group of talented individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills. It all started from our dissatisfaction with music media outlets, seemingly lacking in creativity and vision. Nowadays, best way to resolve such a dilemma is to take matters to your own hands. So we set out to reinvent the media, by creating an online platform where we can showcase a band beyond conventional means, featuring a live performance and a cozy interview, conveying the band, their sound, their style and our scene. It is the only and ultimate New York City independent rock music journal.
Drive
New York City has always been and continues to be a city thriving with talent, art, media and an always exhilarating music scene. Across the city, there are hundred and hundreds of bands, with dozens of stages to play and a great multitude of fans to entertain. And it can be exhausting. With such abundance to choose from nightly, Borough Underground is the decisive platform to showcase the most innovative bands, at the greatest venues in town. Focusing on portray the thriving music scene we live in.
Mission
Borough Underground seeks to gain exposure
for NYC’s most rocking up-and-coming bands,
unveil the current trends in the NYC rock n roll
lifestyle, and most importantly, have a great time
working with our friends and family in the
local rock n roll music scene!
Players
Borough Underground was conceptualized and established by Will Schmid and Damian Sobrevilla in February of 2007. Together, they had the means and methods to jump start such an ambitious project with a main purpose to contribute to the local rock scene. Soon after reaching out to some local talent and bands, they were ready to push forward with their vision, while coming up with the approach and execution as it unfolded. Other key talent includes our core videographers: Gus Sacks, Ben Berlin and Danny Swibel, transforming the concept to a new media. Katharine Brown and Lorraine Fiscehr are the hosts, presenting the scene and players to our viewers. In a town with so much talent and foresight, it is not very difficult and almost too easy to bring together a self-reliant team, all collaborating and working without pay, just for the thrill of broadcasting the scene.
